Repeat victimization has been widely studied from the perspective of environmental criminology for several decades. During this period, criminologists have identified a set of repeat victimization premises that are observed for many crimes; however, it is unknown whether these premises are also valid for cybercrime. In this study we rely on more than 9 million Zone-H data records from 2010 to 2017 to test whether these premises apply for the cybercrime of website defacement. We show that the phenomenon of repeat victimization is also observed in defaced cyber places (i.e. websites). In particular, we found that repeats contributed little to crime rates, that repeats occurred even several years after the original incident, that they were committed disproportionately by prolific offenders, and that few offenders returned to victimize previous targets. The results suggest that some traditional premises of repeat victimization may also be valid for understanding cybercrime events such as website defacement, implying that environmental criminology theories also constitute a useful framework for cybercrime analysis. The implications of these results in terms of criminological theory, cybercrime prevention, and the limitations derived from the use of Zone-H data are discussed.

Hoe vindt praktijkverandering plaats? Wat is ervoor nodig? Wie is ervoor nodig? Op deze en andere vragen hebben talloze veranderkundigen al hun hoofd gebogen. De praktijk is immers weerbarstig, zo zegt men. Een verandering in de praktijk heeft vaak een tijdelijk karakter en veel veranderingen beklijven niet. Dat is jammer. In dit boek worden de methodiek van Practice Development uiteengezet. Zowel de achtergronden, de systematiek als concrete praktijkvoorbeelden passeren daarbij de revue. Practice Development wordt in dit boek beschreven als een cyclische methodiek (met als acroniem PDDOEN) waarmee gezondheids- en onderwijsmedewerkers direct aan de slag kunnen om personen en praktijken duurzaam te veranderen. Dus geen tijdelijke verandering, maar verandering die gedragen wordt door en verankerd is in mensen. Zowel voorbeelden uit de zorg als het onderwijs illustreren de methodiek die tot deze veranderingen leidt. Het boek bevat codes (QR-codes) die verwijzen naar relevante informatie en instrumenten op een website die hiervoor is ontwikkeld. Doelgroep Practice Development is bestemd voor studenten in de gezondheidszorg en aan lerarenopleidingen.

At present, persons with dementia and their family caregivers in the Netherlands are not adequately supported to modify their dwellings to match their personal needs. To facilitate aging-in-place for persons with dementia, a website was designed. The website was designed with persons with dementia and their spouses. In consultation sessions existing websites were discussed. Based on this discussion, a demonstration website was created and then discussed with and judged by the participants. Visits to the website were monitored using Google Analytics.

Binnen het projectonderwijs wordt nog vaak drooggezwommen. Enerzijds door de verstrekte projectopdrachten anderzijds door de suboptimalisatie van oplossingen. Deze zijn namelijk sterk afhankelijk van de verbonden modules en docenten. In de praktijk zijn de oplossingen echter altijd een afweging van tijd, geld en kwaliteit. Onze Human Engineers leren om daar op een goede manier mee om te gaan. Dit door de integratiemodule Integrated Product Development (IPD). IPD is een multidisciplinair project waarbij studenten van verschillende Fontys Instituten werken aan de commercikle en technische uitwerking van een bedrijfsopdracht. Marktonderzoek, doelgroep bepaling en productspecificatie zijn een vast onderdeel van een IPD project evenals het ontwerpen en bouwen van een prototype en het financieel onderbouwen van een Go/NO go advies aan de ondernemer. Het project vindt plaats in het laatste onderwijssemester, net vssr het afstuderen en is dus te zien als een open project met een bedrijf als opdrachtgever. De Human Engineering studenten zijn in deze projecten de verbindende schakel. De specialisten in de projectgroepen, de technische studenten, willen nogal eens zoeken naar mooie oplossingen vooral in technische zin. Daarbij gaan ze vaak volledig voorbij aan het belang van de ondernemer (winst maken) en het belang van de klant (kwaliteit en bedieningsgemak). Ook het projectwerk heeft een enorme sprong vooruit gemaakt door het team uit te breiden met Human Engineers. De Human Engineering studenten focussen vooral ook op het halen van targets (kosten) en deadlines (tijd), het maken en nakomen van afspraken en de communicatie binnen de groep en naar buiten toe (ondernemer en klant). Huidige studenten en alumni geven aan dat het project zeer realistisch is en dat het vergelijkbaar is met problemen die ze in hun werk tegen komen. Zeker blijven doen is hun advies. Organisatorisch vergt het wel een en ander omdat er bijvoorbeeld afstemming dient te komen tussen de verschillende instituten met betrekking tot: beoordeling van de studenten, afstemmen van lesroosters en vergoeding voor docenten. Ook het onderhouden van bedrijfsrelaties om bijvoorbeeld aan de opdrachten te komen blijft een moeilijke, tijdrovende zaak.

The study of moral reasoning in relation to sustainable development is an emerging field within environmental education (EE) and education for sustainable development (ESD). The vignette method was used to evaluate the perception of the relationship between environmental and social issues in the Dutch upper elementary school children. This case study is placed within two broad areas of tension, namely between the need to address urgent environmental problems and to promote pluralistic democratic learning; and between the value of environment as an economic asset and deep ecology perspective. Due to fast and unpredictable developments, professional education is challenged with being responsive, which demands a rethinking of conventional curriculum development approaches. Yet, literature on curriculum development falls short in terms of recognising how to react rapidly and adequately to these new developments. This study focuses on curriculum development initiatives at the school level in a Dutch university of applied sciences. Open interviews were held with 29 curriculum developers to explore how they define and give substance to developing curricula for new, changing or unpredictable professions. These 29 participants were involved in seven curriculum development trajectories. Four themes were detected: (1) curriculum developers are in favour of open, flexible and authentic curricula; (2) the context in which the curriculum development takes place and the different roles and responsibilities of curriculum developers are challenging; (3) curriculum developers feel insufficiently equipped to carry out their tasks; and (4) involving stakeholders is necessary but results in a “viscous” social–political process. Responsive curriculum development requires a great deal of flexibility and adaptability from curriculum developers. Yet, in our study, “institutional concrete” is found to severely hinder responsive curriculum development processes. To be responsive, such processes need to be supported and institutional barriers need to be removed.

Worldwide, including Indonesia and the EU, current (agricultural) use in peatlands is based on massive water drainage. Because drainage leads to environmental problems, many scholars, policy makers and (agricultural) entrepreneurs are rethinking peatland use, aiming for more sustainable peatland management, based on rewetting. However, policymakers and governments often hesitate to implement measures in practice, because rewetting peatlands could have massive socio-economic impacts. Serious Gaming (SG) can facilitate the transition to more sustainable use of peat areas because it provides a safe environment in which social and physical impact of choices can be simulated and evaluated. The SG website http://peatland.eu/ aims to contribute to transition processes for sustainable futures by exploring processes of communication, participation, and social-ecological learning in peatland initiatives. Envisioning a similar impact of this virtual Living Lab it is the ambition to design http://peatland.asia/ and thereby provide a learning strategy for Higher Education Institutes and other interested parties. Achieving such strategy requires a transdisciplinary approach to meet user experience and interface requirements, scientific validity, and contemporary relevance. This paper explores both websites in a context of a collaborative initiative to engage a diversity of peatland colleagues in the further development of interactive relevance of the website.
